The complete Nik Collection includes the all-purpose Nik Color Efex Pro bundle that offers 55 different image filters for doing all kinds of image manipulation, from dynamic skin softening to eerie fog effects. Nik Collection has truly been resurrected and is in now in safe hands. The second piece of good news is that DxO is selling the entire Nik Collection for a very reasonable $69 / £59, and the plug-ins now work with the latest iteration of Adobe’s Creative Cloud software.
It’s simply the best image editor for my money. If you haven’t downloaded Snapseed yet, then do.

Today Snapseed is a very popular app on both iOS and Android platforms in fact, I don’t use anything else to enhance the images taken on my iPhone. It took away Snapseed as well as the popular Nik Collection of plug-ins and began to give away Snapseed for free. So, Google simply bought up Nik Inc… lock stock and barrel. In fact, Snapseed was so good that Google saw the little app as a way of getting a foothold in the image market and thought it would attract phone users to Google’s image storage platform. It was a fabulous app for use on iOS devices and in some ways, it did away with the need for many photographers to even have an image editor like Adobe Photoshop. Then the company produced an image editor that it called Snapseed. More plug-ins for Photoshop, Lightroom – and even Apple’s excellent but now defunct Aperture program – came along. The company’s first product was a digital filter called Define, that did an amazing job of cleaning up the digital noise that was so common with files from early digital cameras when shot at higher ISO sensitivities. A fully functional, one-month trial version of Nik Collection 4.3 is available on the DxO website at company in question was called Nik… nothing to do with Nikon, just a happy coincidence.

Anyone who already owns Nik Collection 3 by DxO or a previous version can upgrade their software by signing into their customer accounts. Upgrading from a previous version of the Nik Collection costs $59.99 / £52.99 instead of the usual $79 / £69.99. These prices are good until December 31st, 2021. Pricing & Availability: The latest Nik Collection 4.3 (Windows and macOS) is available now and can be downloaded from the DxO website for a special price of $99.99 / £89.99 instead of the usual $149 / £135. The ability to create recipes by combining filters in pre-sets means that I can achieve a signature look for a digital image with a single click.
I’ve been using the Nik Collection for 20 years now and it gets better and better. Images can be transformed in a single click to create atmospheric effects like the first light of dawn or the golden glimmer of a summer evening. Six Meta-pre-sets - actions that blend filters and settings from any of the Nik Collection plugins - are available for Adobe Photoshop users.
Finally, there are loads of settings to add realistic film grain patterns to give photos extra depth. Users can remove haze to bring out more detail in the landscape, as well as add more intensity to skies, lending a more ominous feel to an image. The six “Dramatic Landscapes” pre-sets in the Nik Silver Efex Black & White filters can bring out the true character of black and white landscape photos.
